How to edit, translate and summarise a PDF with AI

Edit a PDF by saying what to change

In a PDF, text sits at fixed positions, so classic editors make you fight small boxes and fonts. With AI it works the other way round: you say what should change, it rewrites that text in place, and everything else stays where it was.

1. Keep a copy of the original.
2. One change per line, with the old and the new wording: “Page 2: replace ‘Baku, 2025’ with ‘Baku, 2026’.”
3. Page jobs work the same way: “move page 5 to the start”, “delete page 3”, “add page numbers at the bottom”.
4. Check every page: a longer line may wrap, and a table cell can get tighter.

Fill, sign and black out personal data

Some forms have real fields; in others the lines are only drawn on the page. A good editor fills both, and once the answers are final you lock (flatten) them so nobody changes them by accident.

A drawn or typed signature is fine for everyday paperwork such as a school permission slip, but it is not a legal electronic signature. Under Azerbaijani law, ASAN İmza has the same legal force as a handwritten signature, and state bodies and banks often expect it or ink, so ask the receiver what they accept.

Blacking out needs the most care: in many editors a black box only lies over the text, which stays in the file and can be copied. Real redaction deletes it. On /pdf, Redact removes what is under the box, and if the box covers a picture, that page becomes an image so the hidden part is really gone.

• Say what to remove: “black out every phone number, ID number and address”.
• After saving, try to select or search the hidden words. If you find them, they are still there.

Translate a PDF into Azerbaijani, Russian or English

Copying a PDF into a translator loses its headings, tables and page breaks. Translating inside the editor rewrites each block of text where it stands, so the layout survives.

Be explicit: “Translate the whole document into Azerbaijani, formal style with siz, keep names, numbers and dates unchanged.” Russian and Azerbaijani usually run longer than English, so check long lines and tables.

Summarise a PDF and ask it questions

An AI chat can read a PDF with selectable text and answer questions about it. “Summarise this” gives a generic paragraph, so ask for something specific:

• “The main argument in five bullet points, with page numbers.”
• “The key terms, with a one-line definition each.”
• “Ten questions a teacher could ask about this text.”
• “Where does the author write about inflation? Quote the sentence.”

1. Find the quotes in the PDF and check every number: AI can miss a detail in a long document.
2. Use AI to learn, not to cheat: a summary speeds up reading but does not replace a text you will be examined on, and handing it in as your own work is plagiarism.

Summarise a YouTube lecture or video

A lecture is easier to revise from notes. Many YouTube videos have a transcript: open the description, tap “Show transcript” and paste it into any AI chat for notes or practice questions.

What a PDF editor can't do, and what to use instead

If you came for a converter: an editor changes what a PDF says, not its format.

• Compressing: use a dedicated PDF compressor.
• Converting to Word, Excel or JPG: use a converter. A recent version of Microsoft Word can also open a PDF as an editable document, but complex layouts may shift.
• Scanned PDFs: a scan is a picture with no text inside, so it can't be edited word by word or read as text. Run OCR (text recognition) first, which many scanner apps do, or send clear photos of the pages to a chat.
• Password-protected PDFs: open the file with its password and save an unprotected copy first.
