How to write an essay with AI help and keep it your own work

Use AI as a coach, not a ghostwriter: pick and narrow the topic, build an outline with it, write the draft yourself, then ask for feedback on structure, grammar and style and rewrite. That keeps the essay yours, which is what teachers and exams expect.

The structure of an essay, inşa or сочинение

A school essay in English, an Azerbaijani inşa and a Russian сочинение share three parts: an introduction with your main idea, two to four body paragraphs that prove it, and a conclusion. An esse (эссе in Russian) is usually shorter and more personal, built around a thesis someone could dispute: “Phones distract us in class, but used well they are a pocket dictionary.”

Each body paragraph needs a topic sentence, one fact or example and a line on why it matters. Without an example, a paragraph is only an opinion.

  1. Narrow the topic: not “Technology” but “How my phone changed the way I study.”
  2. Write your main idea in one sentence.
  3. Find three supporting points, each with a concrete example.
  4. Draft the whole essay yourself, without polishing as you go.
  5. Get feedback, rewrite, and read it aloud to catch clumsy sentences.

Where AI helps: topic, outline, feedback, grammar

An AI essay writer can fill a page in seconds, but that page is not your work and teaches you nothing. AI is more useful before and after you write: ask for ten angles on a broad topic and pick the one you have something to say about, or give it your three points and ask which is weakest.

With a draft, ask for feedback, not a rewrite: “Don't rewrite my essay. Name the three biggest problems with its structure, then mark grammar mistakes and explain each rule.” Fixing mistakes yourself is how you stop repeating them. Check every fact too: AI can invent convincing dates, quotes and book titles.

  • Outline: “Here are my main idea and three points. Suggest an order.”
  • Language: “Mark every mistake and explain the rule. Don't change my ideas.”

Example: an outline for an inşa about Vətən (the Motherland)

Vətən is a frequent inşa topic in Azerbaijani schools, and an essay about Azerbaijan or Karabakh follows the same shape. The outline is a skeleton; the sentences and memories must be yours.

  1. Introduction: a personal memory (a place, a grandparent's story), then what Vətən means to you.
  2. Body 1, the land: a real place you know, such as your town, Shusha or Gabala, in concrete detail.
  3. Body 2, literature: a homeland poem from class, such as Samad Vurgun's “Azerbaijan”.
  4. Body 3, Karabakh: the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020 (27 September to 10 November), Remembrance Day on 27 September, Victory Day on 8 November, and what these days mean to your family.
  5. Body 4, your part: what you can give back through study and work.
  6. Conclusion: return to the memory and restate the main idea in new words.

Rewriting and paraphrasing honestly

Paraphrasing means restating someone's idea in your own words and still naming the source. Running text through an AI paraphrasing tool to dodge a plagiarism checker is hidden copying, and swapping in synonyms usually makes the text worse.

AI can check your version: “Does it keep the meaning? Which phrases are too close to the original?” For your own draft, ask what to cut and where a reader gets lost, then make the changes yourself.

  1. Read the passage until you understand it; ask the AI about anything unclear.
  2. Close the source and write the idea from memory.
  3. Compare: keep the meaning, drop any phrase you copied by accident, and name the source.

Is using AI cheating? What teachers and detectors can tell

It depends on what you hand in and on the rules. Many teachers allow AI for ideas, planning and grammar checks; handing in AI-written text as your own counts as cheating almost everywhere. In September 2026 Azerbaijan's Ministry of Science and Education announced plans to develop standards and recommendations for safe and responsible AI use in education; until they appear, follow your school's and your teacher's rules. In the UK, UCAS warns that submitting a personal statement generated by AI as your own words could be considered cheating by universities.

Detectors can't settle it. They measure how predictable the wording is and return a probability, not proof. In a 2023 Stanford study, seven widely used detectors on average labelled more than half of essays by non-native English writers as AI-generated, and detector makers themselves say a score should not be the only evidence.

Teachers notice other things: a sudden jump in vocabulary, a style unlike your class work, a quote that doesn't exist, and they can ask you to explain a paragraph. Keep your notes and drafts as a record. Exams test the skill anyway: in IELTS Writing Task 2 you write at least 250 words on your own.

Speeches, poems and other writing

A speech is written for the ear. English speakers typically talk at 120 to 150 words a minute, so a three-minute speech is roughly 400 words: a hook, two or three points, one line to remember. Write it yourself, then ask the AI to mark long sentences and play the audience.

For poems, AI explains form well: rhyme, metre, the seven-syllable lines of an Azerbaijani bayatı. Let it critique, but write the lines yourself.

OrujovAI's Chat does all of this in Azerbaijani, Russian and English, and understands Azerbaijani typed without ə, ş or ç. Ask for an outline, feedback or a grammar check with rules explained; pick a writing style such as Academic in Settings or the Ctrl/Cmd+K palette; switch to Search mode when you need facts with cited sources; and when the text is final, ask for it as a Word file to download. The Free plan needs no card.

Questions

Is using AI for an essay cheating?

Using AI to plan or check grammar is part of learning, and many teachers allow it. Handing in an AI-written essay as your own is cheating. If you're unsure, ask your teacher.

Can teachers tell if you used AI?

Often, though not from a detector score alone. They notice a style unlike your class work and invented quotes, and can ask you to explain a paragraph.

Why are AI detectors unreliable?

They judge how predictable the wording is, and simple human writing is predictable too, so honest essays sometimes get flagged.

Are ChatGPT and other AI chatbots banned in schools?

There is no single rule: some school systems block chatbots, others teach pupils to use them, and many leave it to teachers. UNESCO's 2023 guidance proposed 13 as a minimum age for using AI tools in the classroom.

Can AI help me write an essay in Azerbaijani?

Yes. OrujovAI was built for Azerbaijani first. Get an outline and feedback in Azerbaijani, then write the essay yourself.
